Bob Coyne was a great sports cartoonist for 47 years for a number of Boston newspapers, including the Boston Post, the Boston Record, and the Boston Herald American. In his career, he completed 15,000 pen and ink drawings. Diminutive owner Lou Perini meets politically incorrect Brave at home plate after a Braves' win against the Giants on Opening Day in 1950, followed by another Boston win the next day, as the Braves swept the series. Remember Spahn and Sain and pray for rain, the rallying cry for the 1948 Brave pennant winners? Well, those hurlers were still reigning, as Spahn won the opener and Sain took the second game. The cartoon is entitled "On The Warpath", and, uttering a politically incorrect pun, the Perini character, about to hug the tomahawk wielding Brave, remarks, "How!" A more politically passable pun shows the defeated Giant character labeled as Gulliver. A Bob Coyne cartoon is a great addition to any collection. (13x15.5") Some water staining, otherwise Good Condition.
