Extremely rare to find a photo of the Big Train hitting, though Johnson, for a pitcher, was pretty good with the bat. He hit .235 lifetime, with 24 homers. Late in his career, he seemed to make a miraculous improvement. In 1925, at age 37, he hit an amazing .433, going 42 for 97. Then, in his final playing season, the 39 year-old hit .348 in 1927. In this photo, Johnson shows good form, and looks like the excellent hitter he eventually became.
