The starting pitchers for the opening game of the 1915 World Series, at Baker Bowl in Philadelphia. On left is Eddie Shore, the Boston Red Sox pitcher, not the Boston Bruins hockey star. The pitcher's biggest claim to fame was a combined no-hitter he pitched two seasons later with Babe Ruth. Ruth had started against the Washington Senators at Fenway Park and walked the first batter. Then Ruth was thrown out for arguing with the home plate ump and Shore came in to pitch. The runner on first was thrown out on an attempted steal and Shore retired the next 26 batters in a row. In this 1915 World Series game, however, Shore lost 4-0 to the Philadelphia Phillies. On right is Alexander, Hall of Fame pitcher and about to win this Series opener. However, that would be the only game the Phillies won in the Series as the Red Sox prevailed 4 games to 1. Type 1 - 1st. Generation. PSA COA
