Ty Cobb poses while leaning on a new Oldsmobile, but the most interesting item in the photo is not the car - it's actually Cobb's sweater. In the 1920's and into the '30's, when players suffered the early chills of spring or the biting winds of early fall, the sweater was the ball player's means of staying warm on the field -and sometimes off it. Please note: The sweaters of this era had nothing in common with the pedestrian Bill Belichick hoddies of today. The sweater in this photo resides in the Baseball Hall of Fame as an example of baseball fashion of the 1920's. The sweater is tan, with long sleeves, and buttons down the middle. There is a large "D" for Detroit and the team name "Tigers" is on a patch above the "D". It has two pockets in front. The material? 100% wool. Fine wool. It sports a semi-collar. It's a very stylish Cardigan. Nice photo of the sport's fiercest competitor dressed in the height of baseball fashion. Measures 8x10"
