Rarely seen "Unsigned" as these were given as gifts and were usually signed by players such as Rockne and Thorpe and other members of Christy Walsh's "Board" of All Americans. Walsh was a larger-than-life personality who is often regarded as America's first sports agent. He represented baseball immortals such as Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Dizzy Dean, and John McGraw. Walsh also ran a ghostwriter "stable" that wrote for athletes, and his all-star writers included Damon Runyon and Ford Frick. Walsh's office was in Hollywood, California, and he was also involved with motion pictures, such as one with Rockne. Thus, a gift humidor from Christy Walsh was a treasured keepsake that was highly revered. Therefore, you cannot buy these normally for less than a thousand dollars. It was presented to Joe Bihler, Walsh's right hand man. Years later, letter talks about the humidors which Walsh now wants. Some wear. Official Spalding football. Rare insert you never see with ashtray and which you use as a lighter. Beautiful suede lining with hand lettered "Patent Pending #196". 11) 1942 letter explaining Babe Ruth's death was prematurely reported. Fascinating! From the estate of Joe Bihler, the right hand man of Babe Ruth's agent Christy Walsh and in turn Ruth himself.
