Perhaps the only Major League player to consistently work as a grave digger in the off-season, Richie Hebner had an eighteen-year big league career, was a career .276 hitter, and served as the starting third baseman on the 1971 World Series champion Pittsburgh Pirates. Presented here is Digger’s road gray flannel vest; a seven-button front with “Pirates” arched across the chest and “20” on the verso, all sewn-on in black on gold felt twill. Beautiful tail tagging includes “Spalding,” “44,” and washing labels, a “set 1 1969” flap tag, and “Hebner 44 69” in black chain-link. The jersey is autographed in NRMT blue sharpie and exhibits season-long wear. It’s worth noting that the Pirates were the only team in 1969 not to wear the baseball centennial patch, although the Padres only wore the patch on their home jerseys.
