Addendum: In 1950, the Pirates wore "Pittsburgh" on their road jerseys. While there is some speculation that the team may have also used "Pirates" on road jerseys, we have not uncovered any photographic evidence to support this speculation. Furthermore, there appears to be visible activity on the front of the jersey where the "Pittsburgh" once resided.  As such, we believe that after Fernandez left the team, his jersey was re-lettered with "Pirates" for either (1) minor league use, (2) Spring Training use by a non-roster player, or (3) regular season use after the team started using "Pirates" on their road jerseys in 1954. It should be noted that the number "11" is original and that sleeves were customized to Fernandez's specifications. Also, the verso appears to have a faint outline of letters that may have been used to identify the jersey in some sort of display at a later date.

A utility player with the Boston Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates, Froilan “Nanny” Fernandez had a four-year Major League career. Presented here is his seven-button road gray flannel jersey with “Pirates” arched across the chest and “11” on the verso, all sewn-on in black on gold felt twill. Gold/black piping adorns the collar, while tagging includes “A.G. Spalding & Bros.,” “46,” “Dry Clean Only,” and a gray felt swatch with “F. Fernandez 50” in black chain-link. Exhibits nicely with great display appeal.
