Book itself (5.75x7.25"), in wonderful color, is charmingly bound and tied with original string through two punched holes in the cover. The cards provide a fascinating look at sports 130 years ago. Four professional baseball cards are included: Dell Darling, Chicago White Stockings (forerunner of the White Sox), as a champion catcher; E.A. Burch, Brooklyn Trolley-Dodgers (before the "Trolley" departed their name), as a champion fielder; Hardie Henderson, Brooklyn Trolley-Dodgers, as a champion pitcher; Tip O'Neill, St. Louis Browns (forerunner of the Baltimore Orioles), as a champion batter. Includes intriguing oddities: Think women's boxing is relatively new? Not really. Champion female boxer Hattie Stewart is included. Axel Paulsen, for whom the Axel Jump in figure skating is named, is appears as a champion skater. Amazingly, he was also a speed skater as well, holding world records! In a poignant sign of the times, Issac Murphy's card appears as a "Champion Colored Jockey". Great addition to any collection for both its historical value and its vivid art.
