The Ivy League giant fielded its first baseball squad in 1864. Thirty years later, the season ticket on offer here was issued. “1894 Complimentary Yale University Base Ball Association Season Ticket” with the bearer’s and president’s names appearing in black fountain pen below. It is interesting to note that it was during the 1894 season that Yale players George Case and Dutch Carter invented one of the National Pastime’s great innovations – the suicide squeeze play. In 1901, the two intrepid alumni would found the New York law firm White & Case. In 1902, their innovation debuted in the Major Leagues. Some light toning is a mild distraction and inconsequential considering this artifact’s age.
