Scarce figural piece in chalkware shows mighty Tiger perched on a baseball - almost like an agile tiger balancing on a large ball in the circus rings of that time. "Detroit" is imprinted in script on the ball. The baseball itself is on the lower front of a fielder's glove, leaving the glove's pocket for use as an ash tray. The ashtray is 6 inches tall. Overall good condition, some fading and slight chipping of paint. The item evokes another time: the 1940's of Hall of Famers Hank Greenburg, Hal Newhouser, and Charlie Gehringer - when the Tigers were on the prowl and won the pennant in 1940 and the World Series in 1945.
