ADDENDUM: At the request of a client we have taken the piece out if the frame to take a look at the overall. We are very glad we did. the piece is mounted on a heavy original board right to the edge. It is 100% a Type I image of excellent quality.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, the name of the original owner of the Pottsville Maroons Doc Striegel has been written on the verso in vintage pencil. It is either his signature or it directs the piece to be given to the owner. Further research is being done as we speak. The framing was too overpowering and in or opinion unattractive. This makes the piece far more difficult and expensive to ship. The piece is being sold without the frame.

As we all know the Pottsville Maroons remain one of the great injustices in sports history. In 1925 they were robbed of being forever known as the first NFL champion on a mere technicality. Like the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn, it is forever  bemoaned in the area to this very day.

+++++

The independent football team from Pottsville, Pennsylvania, the Pottsville Eleven originally played in the eastern Pennsylvania circuit against other independent and local teams.  With their success and ever-growing fanbase, they joined the Anthracite League in 1924, changed their name to the "Maroons" and even won the league title.

With their eyes on bigger and better things, the Maroons desperately wanted to make an impression on the NFL and its president Joe Carr.  On a trip to play the Atlantic City Roses the Maroons' fans followed along, attended the game and sent a loud message to the NFL.  This beautiful panoramic photograph was taken during the trip and shows the team with all of their loyal fans.  All the hard work finally paid off and the Maroons became an official NFL team in 1925.

The oversized panoramic photograph is very focused, crisp and has tremendous eye appeal.  9x42" piece is framed and matted at 22x54".
