1946 Negro Baseball Yearbook with Jackie Robinson on cover. Early and important issue. Once you could find this, but now very difficult, the cover shows Robinson as a 1945 Kansas City Monarch. RARE because the magazine was printed predominately for African-Americans and few were printed. Contains a poignant and ironic article by Ric Roberts in which Roberts forecasts that Negro Leagues' baseball will flourish with the signing by "organized" baseball of Jackie Robinson, Campanella, Wright, and Newcombe, when in fact it declined precipitously because African-Americans began to focus on the players signed to contacts with organized baseball. Inside is a Cum Posey obit. East West All-Star Game "Classic", Wendell Taylor outside, World Series (Grays vs. Buckeyes), Paige and Feller, tons of photos and stats. Some creasing to spine, otherwise Ex. Another important article is by Wendell Smith in which Smith analyses the chances of Robinson and Johnny Wright making the majors after playing a year in the minors. A third amazing article is by Sam Lacy in which Lacy is prescient in predicting a bright future for African-Americans in the majors. Wonderful photos of Jackie Robinson in his debut in organized baseball, the hisitoric handshake in his first minor league game when George Shuba naturally shook Robinson's hand after Robinson's historic home run.
