Anyone with the least bit of familiarity with the Kentucky Derby knows two things: a) Secretariat is its most famous and fastest winner; and b) The mint julep is the libation of choice for the First Saturday in May. This offering of six sterling silver mint julep stirrers from the personal collection of Secretariat's owner Penny Chenery brings together these two cultural icons.

The set of simple, yet elegant, sterling stirrers has been a part of the Chenery family collection for several generations -- and not just for show. Like any proper hostess, Ms. Chenery, known to many as "The First Lady of Racing," provided them for her favorite guests during her Derby Day parties and racing gatherings. While still in excellent condition, the stirrers have long been a part of the Meadow Stable tradition and have participated in toasts for its winners and many descendants emanating from this renowned Virginia breeding operation and its 1973 Triple Crown champion.

Each stirrer measures "8 in length and weighs approximately 0.4 oz. The vintage stirrers date to the 1940s and once belonged to family patriarch Christopher Chenery. They were produced by the esteemed New York silversmiths Black, Starr & Gorham.  A fabulous find for any racing fan or antique silver collector.
