From the confines of a Windy City landmark, this authentic sign displays rusting, chipping, and some bending from decades of directing people to "Soldiers Athletic Field". Originally opened on October 24, 1924 as Municipal Grant Park Stadium, the first college football game the field hosted was when Notre Dame defeated Northwestern 13-6 on Nov. 22, 1924. Soldier Field received its new name on Nov.27, 1925 before a game between Army and Navy. The venue has held great boxing matches, such as the controversial heavyweight title rematch when Gene Tunney defeated Jack Dempsey in the famous "Long Count" fight in 1927. In 1971, the stadium started hosting Chicago Bears games and has also hosted concerts featuring stars such as Barbara Streisand, Johnny Cash, Paul McCartney, the Grateful Dead and The Rolling Stones. A fine nostalgic sign from a classic American stadium. 23.5x 8".
