Rachel Alexandra is widely considered to have had the greatest three-year old season of any filly in the history of horse racing in America. She launched herself into the realm of greatness with a breakout performance in the Kentucky Oaks, winning by over twenty lengths. She followed that victory with wins in the Preakness Stakes, Mother Goose, Haskell Stakes and, culminating an unblemished eight race season, defeated older horses in the Woodward Stakes. Her historic run of '09 earned her the Eclipse award for Three-Year old Filly and for Horse of the Year. The horseshoe which is the subject of this offering was worn by Rachel Alexandra in the 2009 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park. Racing in the colors of her original owner and breeder (Stonestreet Farm acquired her after the Kentucky Oaks) she won by 8¾ lengths - the highest margin of victory in the 42-year history of this race and served as a precursor for what was to come in the Kentucky Oaks. This horseshoe was acquired from trainer Hal Wiggins' employee Ruben Flores, Rachel Alexandra's handler for the first ten starts of her career, and is accompanied with a letter of provenance from Mr. Flores. The horseshoe is mounted on a 13"x17" solid cherry plaque with an 8x10" photo of her winning the Fantasy Stakes and a custom made metal presentation placard. A healthy lock of tail hair, which was removed from Rachel Alexandra during her grooming, is included.
