This unassuming block of wood, insignificant on its own, plays an important role in the making of a tool. And this tool, in the right hands, becomes a part of something great. Wayne Gretzky’s first professional model stick was made at the Northland factory in 1978 while he was with the WHA Indianapolis Racers. This wooden template or pattern stick was used to manufacture his famous “7055” pattern game sticks according to factory markings. Also labeled “Gretzky” in two places and “Tracing Pattern”. Originally obtained along with hundreds of other players’ pattern sticks after the Northland factory burned to the ground in the Eighties.
