Offered are a pair of 1968 Topps high number vending boxes, which had been searched a couple decades ago by our consignor. Although searched (verified by the lack of factory format in the card placement), the appears to be about 35 cards in total missing. Our consignor, who had purchased vending boxes directly from Topps for decades, said he likely "needed a few cards" for some sets he built, and took them from these boxes. Since they were previously searched, we went through and counted cards, pulling the one major star (Jim Palmer) in the final series. The first box, which had mostly original factory vending format, contained 478 cards with nine Palmer cards, while the second box, which looked completely searched, contained 487 cards and four Palmer cards, making a total of 13 Jim Palmer cards (one has a corner crease). There appears to be an even mix within the series, but we didn't attempt to make any final series "sets," only counting cards and pulling the Palmers. While the majority of cards have razor sharp corners, great color, and the super original factory gloss, centering issues mandate an overall grade of EX/MT to NM/MT, and even though there are a couple hundred sharp and centered beauties ready for third-party grading, there are also about 10% of the cards which are severely off center and/or miscut. Total of almost 1,000 fresh vending quality cards with 13 examples of the series' most valuable card, #575 Jim Palmer.
