Just three years into what was a promising NBA career, Maurice Stokes suffered a head injury that eventually left him paralyzed. Stokes was Rookie of the Year in 1956 and was an All-Star in each of his seasons; so impressive was his brief tenure that he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004. As a benefit before his death in 1970 and a memorial thereafter, the Maurice Stokes Memorial Game drew some of the sport's biggest names to participate. This trophy has a wood base with metal figures and was awarded to Oscar Robertson as the game's Most Valuable Player. The plate reads, "4th Annual Maurice Stokes Game, Kutscher's Country Club, Aug 24, 1962, Most Valuable Player." The trophy is in EX condition, measuring 10x6" at the base and 26" tall.
