This bat bears a paper label using the term "memorabilia," the earliest known use of the term we have seen. Rare L.C. Dole & Co. bat (35.5") used By Samuel M. Chase. Sports lovely light finish with contrasting dark painted center section and decorative rings. The trademark gold stenciling is very complete with minimal loss or fading. One end of the bat has a handwritten label that describes the game in which this bat was used. It appears to read, " Game between H____ to be kept as memorabilia...1885...Bat with which SMC made two single base hits in succession off the professional Murray who once played with the Keystones of New Jersey." Great bat with an even better story. Recently discovered collection of bats used by Samuel M. Chase, member of the Yale University Class of 1883. Three of his bats bear paper labels with the word "memorabilia," the earliest known use of the term we have seen.
