This turn-of-the-century beauty is a "desktop" thermometer with early baseball player, who appears to be in union attire. Created by Pairpoint, one of the greatest silversmiths of the time, this thermometer stands 7" tall, silver plate, stamped "Special 5601." The thermometer itself is beautifully framed by what appears to be tree branches tied together, and it remains in working order - filled with mercury, not alcohol. Originates from the collection of Sandra Whitson, who published figural Napkin Rings: Collector's Identification and Value Guide. There is some restoration to the milk glass that is unnoticeable, one link appears to be unattached. Intricate workmanship, a beautiful piece.
