The penultimate German-Jewish composer who fled Nazi Germany, composed "The Threepenny Opera" with Bertolt Brecht ("Mack the Knife"), and merged social consciousness with music unlike any other. Written three years after fleeing from Nazi Germany, this letter was written right after the summer of 1936 where he wrote the controversial "Johnny Johnson" with collaborator Paul Green. Weill rented an old house near the the Group Theatre at Pine Brook Country Club and spent that summer with several of the Hollywood "communists" including Elia Kazan, Clifford Odets, Will Geer & Lee J. Cobb, all part of the legendary Group Theater. Letter is written to Edward B. Marks, the groundbreaking music publisher. Weill is asking Marks about a "proposition," obviously a publishing deal for "Johnny Johnson." Multiple folds o/w EX with beautiful NM-MT signature. Comes certified by PSA.
