A comfortable, inviting token of one of the most legendary upsets in all of sports, this jacket once belonged to Jim Craig of the "Miracle on Ice" team that won gold at the 1980 Winter Games in Lake Placid. Comprised of a ragtag bunch of amateurs, the U.S. Men's Olympic Hockey Team defied all odds that year, taking down the seemingly invincible Soviet Union in the game that would give birth to the team's moniker, before besting Finland in a somewhat anti-climactic final game. The blue velour warm-up jacket is a typical style of the period, and has a "USA 1980 Olympic Team" patch on the left breast, while "Levi's" and "Ice Hockey" patches oppose it on the right breast. The inside of the neck has a silk label reading "Made Exclusively For The USA 1980 Olympic Team by Levi Strauss & Co." The jacket is attributed to Jim Craig, who was magnificent in net in the game against the Soviets, as the consignor's grandfather said he received the jacket from Craig as a gift. The consignor grew up near Lake Placid, and was outside the arena the day of the Miracle on Ice game. We have sold a nearly identical Jim Craig 1980 USA warm-up, however, it did not have the "Ice Hockey" patch on the right breast like the other jackets that have been sold by other players.
