Forever immortalized in a double-play combination with Joe Tinker and Frank Chance, Johnny Evers is one of the most famous second basemen to ever play the game. Finding his signature on any ball is a challenge, but this one is as close as we have gotten to a single-signed Evers ball, making it exceptionally rare. The ball contains only one other signature, and that is of fellow Hall of Famer and legendary commissioner Kenesaw "Mountain" Landis. This signature however was not done in the hand of Landis, but possible Evers for reasons unknown. Evers' signature can be found on a side panel, all alone, in 6.5/10 black ink with the inscription, "Sincerely Yours, John J. Evers" and "May 20th /1921 Mgr. Cub's." Known as one of the smartest players of his era, Evers naturally made the jump to manager following his playing career, and at the time the ball was signed he was indeed manager of the Chicago Cubs, though the gig only lasted one year. As a player, Evers was a two-time World Series winner with the Cubs, and was named MVP in 1914, the year after he left Chicago. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946. The Draper & Maynard Intercollegiate League baseball is aged and has a beautiful light brown patina. Landis' signature is in the same black ink as Evers' and is also rated 6.5/10. The ball comes with a letter from Joe Evers, great nephew of Johnny, stating that the ball has been in the family since it was obtained by Johnny. The letter is notarized and dated 1993. The ball comes with an additional PSA letter.
