This Pete Rose contract extension with the Cincinnati Reds comes fresh off the team winning back-to-back World Series in 1975 and 1976. Rose was instrumental in the success of the "Big Red Machine" teams of the 1970s, and as such, the Reds unsurprisingly decided to keep their star player on board. The letter is from Reds GM Dick Wagner to Rose, and is signed "Richard Wagner" at the bottom. It states that "the Cincinnati Reds, Inc. hereby renews said contract for the period of one year on the same terms of $187,500.00," which is a pittance compared to what the stars of today make. Two years later, Rose would become the highest-paid athlete in sports when he signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. The letter is in EX condition with typical mailing folds and the original envelope stapled to the back.
