The brainchild of controversial owner Bill Veeck, Eddie Gaedel was a midget who became the shortest player in the history of the Major Leagues when he made a plate appearance for the St. Louis Browns on August 19, 1951. Standing 3'7" tall, Gaedel's strike zone was virtually non-existent, and understandably he walked on four straight pitches. This questionnaire was sent to Gaedel by baseball historian Karl Wingler. It is filled out in Gaedel's hand and is postmarked September 29, 1951, just over a month after Gaedel made his lone plate appearance. Gaedel's responses include his middle name, birth date, nationality, eye color and hair color. The card measures 2.5x5" and is framed to 18x22" along with a photo of the historic moment, a blurb about it, and the envelope it was sent in. It is incredibly rare to find anything from Gaedel, and his autographs on index cards have sold for upwards of $10,000.
