The 1973 Topps baseball set is one of the more popular issues of that era. With the Rookie card of Mike Schmidt included, plus the final card of Willie Mays, there is sufficient reason for the overall popularity. However, the first series contains a plethora of stars and HOFers including the #1 Ruth/Aaron/Mays card, 50 Clemente, 100 Aaron, 130 Rose, plus "minor" HOFers such as #10 Don Sutton, 84 Rollie Fingers, plus the League Leader cards including the #67 Nolan Ryan/Steve Carlton card. While the set is popular, unopened material from this issue is in high demand, evidenced by some extremely scarce rack packs Leland's offered in the last two catalog auctions. However, we now offer likely one of the most difficult to locate unopened items from this set, that of the Series 1 wax box of 24 original packs. While Series 3 and 4 wax boxes from 1973 are seen quite often, first series boxes are almost non-existent. Our research has indicated only a handful of boxes from the first series have ever publicly traded hands, with most of those transactions occurring many years ago. This exquisite box contains 24 Mint packs, within a nicely appearing box with the familiar colorful graphics, and has been authenticated and sealed by Steve Hart at BBCE. This is one of the best wax boxes from the 1970s era, which is very rare, and possibly containing many of the game's greatest stars. It would make a significant addition to the ultimate collection of sealed wax boxes.
