Written on letterhead of the Milwaukee Brewers of the Western League in October 1900 right after the season, Connie Mack makes his pitch for the services of Lewis Carr to play for the Brewers, who would become one of the original American League teams for one year in 1901 but then become the St. Louis Browns. Mack himself would leave Milwaukee, too, and months later would become part-owner of the original Philadelphia Athletics. Carr would ultimately play for the Pittsburgh Pirates instead, because this letter shows how uncompromisingly parsimonious Mack was: all he talks about is getting a bargain. Perhaps Mack already knew he was going to Philly as an owner and was working for the future on this gorgeous "Milwaukee Baseball Club" stationery. Includes PSA LOA.
