In 1968, Topps issued the "Action All-Star Stickers" test set, creating one of the scarcest, and most unusual, of all Topps Test issues. There were sixteen numbered vertical sticker panels in the set, each comprised of three 3.25x5.25" panels, perforated at the joints for potential separation. Each three-panel strip features a large image of a star player in the center panel, with smaller pictures of three players on the top and bottom panels. Offered is a collection of two different 1968 "Action All-Star Stickers" test panels, both completely intact and both including the great Mickey Mantle. These two full strips derive from the incredible Mickey Mantle collection consigned to Leland's at the 2017 National Convention in Chicago. The Mantle single "card" (#7) is the most popular "card" in the set, and while the Mantle portion is sometimes seen individually graded, full strips with the Mantle stickers are rarely seen. Other players on this strip include: Willie McCovey, Rick Monday and Steve Hargan (top) with Rod Carew, Tony Gonzalez and Billy Williams (bottom). The second Mantle strip has The Mick as part of the top panel along with Jim Hunter and Vada Pinson, the great Hank Aaron (#10) in the middle and Gary Peters, Bob Gibson and Bud Harrelson on the bottom panel. The complete #7 Mantle "Action All-Star Sticker" is the star of this set and is an exceptional example one of the premier Mantle Topps test issues of the era. In addition, arguably the second most popular individual player card is that of Hank Aaron, which also contains a second Mantle image on the top panel. Our research has indicated this is the first time both Mantle 1968 Topps "Action All-Star Stickers" full strips have been offered at one time, both part of one of the scarcest of all Topps test issues. Both are EX-MT condition overall with no perforations.
