On August 14, 1903, World Heavyweight Champion, James Jeffries made his 6th defense of the title he had captured in 1899 from Robert Fitzsimmons. Jeffries opponent was the legendary former champion, James J. Corbett, the man who had put John L. Sullivan into retirement. On this day, however, it would be Corbett who would be forced to retire. The fight took place at the Mechanics Pavilion of the Yosemite Club in San Francisco. The soon to be 37 year old Corbett fought gamely, but was no match for the bigger, stronger and younger champion, Jeffries. Corbett was stopped in the 10th round. He never fought again. Offered here is an original, full, unused ticket from this event with attached stub which names both fighters. The ticket includes section, box, and seat number. The ticket has some paper loss on the reverse from being stuck in an album. It is made up on heavy stock and has some rounding to the corners. It is an official, unused ticket from the venue where the fight was held. No creases or tears. Stub firmly attached. 2.63x6.5". Rare, one of two we have seen.
