On November 15, 1901, at Mechanics Pavillion in San Francisco, World Heavyweight Champion James J. Jeffries defended his title against Gus Ruhlin. Jeffries was declared the winner when Ruhlin could not come out for the 6th round. Claims that Ruhlin quit during the 5th round are incorrect. All of the local next day San Francisco sources agree that Ruhlin manager Billy Madden threw up the sponge to retire Gus during the one-minute interval between the 5th and 6th rounds. Offered here is a very rare, original, official program for this event. This official program pictures the fighters and other dignitaries on the cover. Consists of 12 pages complete. Not scored. Slight separation at the binding, but still intact. Light pencil notation on front cover and minor soiling of both covers. No center crease, but has creases in corners. Clipped lower right corner of front cover. Edge wear with a few small closed tears. 7x10.5". Rare, one of two we have offered.
