Babe Ruth's legendary bats hammered many a pitcher, but this lot takes that quite literally. This unique item is a 5" long section of a game used bat barrel from a Babe Ruth gamer that was re-purposed to smash objects other than baseballs. The bat was given to the grandfather of our consignor, Stewart Jacobson, back in the 1920's when he was living in Coney Island, and shortly after receiving the bat from Ruth, he turned it into not just a hammer but a family heirloom. Jacobson then offered this relic to the Yankees as a loan due to his relationship with the late Yankee owner George Steinbrenner III. Steinbrenner actually told Mr. Jacobson this piece was "ingenious", however the Yankees were reluctant to accept new material at the time due to their relocation. There's a "Trademark" above Ruth's signature with "U.S. Pat. Off" below and a small chunk from the barrel has wood removal. From top to bottom, the hammer measures 14" but the barrel chunk itself measures 5".  Distinctive and unusual artifact from The Great Bambino.
