One of the biggest trends in this great hobby is the increasing popularity of signed and encapsulated vintage sports cards, especially for the biggest names in sports. When you combine a signed card with one of the subject's most popular pasteboards, the desirability exponentially increases. Triple that factor when it is also a HOFer rookie card from a high number series. Such is this case with this signed 1967 Topps #581 Tom Seaver Rookie card. Tom Terrific's most treasured card, this near-perfectly centered example contains a very flowing "Tom Seaver" blue ink signature across the the lower portion of Seaver's image, the signature is strong, in the ("8/9") range. In the past, collectors did not want to "damage" their rookie cards by obtaining signatures on them; therefore, rookie cards signed by the greatest ballplayers who ever laced up the spikes are rarely seen, and have become very desirable over the last couple years. This is Seaver's most popular card, in very nice condition with a near perfect signature. As with the other Seaver signed cards (one lot) and the 1966 Topps #100 signed Sandy Koufax, our consignor obtained this signature in person as his father was a close friend of Tom Seaver.
