The hottest era of the sportscard market is here in vintage unopened material, with new records being set every auction in regards to these scarce items. However, one item even scarcer is that of the empty display boxes. These boxes enticed young boys to the card counter where they protected the colorful waxy packs and the treasured cardboard relics. This collection of a dozen empty display boxes are colorful in their display, with multiple images of players and bubble gum advertisements. This collection has had one owner, the consignor for many of the "vending quality" cards of several lots and complete sets in this auction. He "ripped open" wax back in the day and played with his cards every week. Includes: TOPPS BASEBALL - 1969: Images of McLain, Gibson, Yaz, Mays, Rose and Frank Howard at the sides and top panel, which is open at the perforation. Has light creasing and a "dent" on bottom panel (not seen during display). Also has a number "6" written in ink top left on top. Very nice box with actual player images. Grades VG/EX overall. 1970: FOUR different boxes from four different series, although the tops are all the same, each front panel advertises a new and different insert! All four are perforated as they were meant to be. 1) Denny McLain "All Star Poster" example, from the first series. Couple small tears at top near perforation, o/w EX/MT. 2) "Extra Scratch-off Card" in each pack, from the middle series (3rd). Moderate creasing at top near the perforations. VG/EX overall. 3) "Extra Insert" in each pack - no player image - may be 2nd series. Light creasing at top near perforations, and small tear on back panel. VG/EX overall. 4) "Brand New! Story booklet" with Pete Rose booklet image. Small team along crease on front panel opposite Rose, o/w EX/MT. 5th series. 1972: SIX of the exact same box, with Bazooka and Blony gum ad on bottom panel. TWO are EX/MT to NM; TWO are EX with light damage near perforation, while TWO are VG/EX with moderate damage, with light creasing. FOOTBALL - 1970 Topps: very nice display box with generic New York Jets running back on top with three other generic player images....very light issues. Perforated. Grades EX to EX/MT.
