The Daily Racing Form called it “A Season for the Ages.” Dr. Fager was known for his commanding speed and competitive spirit, and during his 4-year-old season in 1968, the bay colt never carried less than 130 pounds. He set a world record for a mile in the Washington Park Handicap at Arlington Park. But at Aqueduct’s Surburban Stakes, “The Doc” faced off with arch rival Damascas, the reigning Horse of the Year. Their epic battle, neck and neck, to the quarter pole tested the will and stamina of both champions. In the homestretch, Dr. Fager pulled away for the well-earned victory, tying a track record. The 1968 racing season ended with Dr. Fager becoming the only racehorse ever to hold four American racing titles in one year: Horse of the Year, Champion Older Horse, Champion Grass Horse and Champion Sprinter. This sterling silver trophy, was presented to the future Hall of Fame jockey Braulio Baeza following Dr. Fager's historic win in the Suburban. A gorgeous example of hand-crafted silversmithing, topped with an incredibly ornate and detailed equestrian. Elegantly engraved with: “NYRA The Suburban AQUEDUCT 1968 Won by Tartan Stables DR. FAGER Jockey Braulio Baeza.” The trophy stands 10 x10.5” and is stamped Sterling 90 with hallmark. Includes original track program signed twice by Braulio Baeza.
