Age, subject, and creator combine to make this seemingly-ordinary photo something special. Taken by legendary photographer Charles Conlon, this circa 1927 Type I photo is a close-up of Lou Gehrig's "batting hands." The 6.5x8.5" black and white shot is back stamped "Charles Conlon, Evening Telegram, New York" and handwritten is "Lou Gehrigs, batting hands" in pencil on back. This image dates from from the original Baseball Magazine photo archive with hologram; it has a crease on the bottom left and minor crease on bottom right, otherwise EX condition. Gehrig's pinstripes serve as the perfect backdrop for this look at some of the best tools of the trade ever.
