Offered is the highest SGC Graded Babe Ruth strip card from the very unique W516-2-2 strip card set....coming in at a very nice SGC 84 NM 7, the highest example graded by SGC. There were many different “W” strip cards issued between 1919 and 1923, with one of the more interesting sets being the 1920 “W516-2-2” issue depicting reverse negative images. In fact, Ruth is shown as a right-handed PITCHER on this card, which is also one of the early cards depicting him as a New York Yankee. Approximately 1.375 x 2.5”, this blank-backed card has two NM-MT corners, and two NM corners, is about as well centered as you can get for one of the early strip cards, and is generally free of the usual staining which harasses this issue. A total of (31) W516-2-2 Babe Ruth cards have ever been encapsulated by SGC, with this SGC 84 NM 7 as the best ever graded by that third party authenticator. These early Ruth strip cards do not come available very often, especially not in this high grade. This example has a nice overall appearance and is from the season of his first World Series with the New York Yankees.
