The true Holy Grail of boxing programs. The fight that started it all. If there was no Sullivan-Corbett, there would be no Louis-Schmeling, Ali-Frazier or Holyfield-Tyson. Official program with an ornate cover which pictures the venue for the fight, The Olympic Club in New Orleans. It totals 44 pages complete with biographies and photos of Sullivan and Corbett and also the other fighters who competed during this championship week, George Dixon, Jack Skelly, Billy Myer and Jack McAuliffe. Not scored. Tight binding. Mild cover soiling. There is a compression at top right which runs into the program with no paper loss. Edge and corner wear. Tears on back cover with small paper loss. No center crease. 6.13x9.25." Extremely rare, one of only four or five known and this is one of the best conditioned we have seen. History: On September 7, 1892 at the Olympic Club in New Orleans, Louisiana, James J. Corbett won the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship by knocking out John L. Sullivan in the 21st round. Corbett's new scientific boxing technique enabled him to dodge Sullivan's rushing attacks, and wear him down with jabs. This was the first gloved contest for the Heavyweight Championship. Offered here is an original, official program for this event.
