Throughout the turbulent times of the 1960s, Topps baseball cards experienced their version of Vitamin B-12 shots to energize sales. Many different types of cards, known as “test issues” sets were produced and test marketed in certain areas of the country to determine overall desirability. If cards were a hit, they were mass-produced a year or so later on. Offered is arguably one of the toughest test issues Topps ever produced, the 1967 Topps Punch-Out cards. Harkening back to the days of the 1930s and 1940s, when Woody Gelman and Sy Berger were kids, the two Topps baseball card masterminds brought the concept of the punchboard back to the children of a new generation. Unfortunately, these cards were not exciting to the children of Baltimore, where this issue was mostly test marketed and the concept was scrapped. While the cards are scarce enough, and the known checklist might not even be complete, unopened pack examples are extremely rare, with our research only finding two other packs publicly trading hands. Certainly an interesting issue, the 1967 Topps Punch-Out cards features many Hall of Famers including Mantle, Rose and Clemente. This still factory sealed elongated 2.5 x 14" cello pack features two three-card panels for a total of six extremely rare punch-out trading cards. Visible on the front are Luis Aparicio, Richie Allen, John Romano with the bottom three unidentifiable due to the generic reverses. The cello itself does show some light corner cracking though the seal remains very strong. It is very enticing to wonder who lies beneath, and could potentially house the aforementioned Mantle, Rose or Clemente. This extremely rare cello pack will be the highlight of any unopened pack collection.
