Before it became known as Connie Mack Stadium from 1953 until its closing in 1976, Shibe Park served as the home field of Philadelphia's A's and Phillies from its opening in 1909. Commensurate with its age, this stadium seat with original wood and metal shows a great deal of flaking and cracking to its red paint. The name "HERMAN" is stenciled in white on a piece of tape panted red to match the seat, affixed on the top slat of the seatback. Shibe had the distinction of being baseball's first steel-and-concrete stadium, and also hosted the first night game ever played in the American League, in 1939.
