Though known mostly for his drawings of the Brooklyn Bums, esteemed cartoonist Willard Mullin depicted the long-suffering Boston Red Sox in this original art work in pen & ink. Boston - which at that point was in year 29 of what would balloon to an 86-year championship drought - was coming off an American League Championship season in 1946 and showed similar promise in '47 before arm injuries brought the Sox back to third place with an 83-71 record. The Old Towne Team is illustrated in the form of an awakening giant as A.L. rivals Detroit, Cleveland and the Yankees look on. The piece measures 15x17" and is in EX condition.
