If you asked every sports card collector if they could have one card - just one card - in their collection, the 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle rookie card would likely be the top vote-getter, even over the T206 Honus Wagner plus any one of the Babe Ruth “Rookie” cards. The name Mickey Mantle transcends baseball, a it is arguably the greatest sounding sports name of all time. Every sports card collector dreams of owning the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, but with high grade examples ranging from $400,000 to $1,000,000, a true high grade Topps Mantle rookie is out of the price range of even the most ardent collectors. However, we offer a very eye appealing, well-centered example which will not approach those lofty dollar figures and is within range for many more Mickey Mantle card collectors - the true "middle class" collector which is the backbone of the entire hobby. This example has been authenticated and encapsulated by Sports Card Guaranty (SGC) as AUTHENTIC, with the subcategory of “Altered/Rebacked.” This indicates there has been some separation of the front and back of the card and we believe the card is all original but has been repaired to reattach the separation. All in all, this card is a very eye appealing all original 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie card with very nice color, is very well centered but does have some toning to the white borders and several light creases and surface scratches. Without the alteration, this card would likely grade a GOOD 2, again with wonderful centering. While this example is certainly not “high end” we feel this “collector grade” card is also “investment grade”. The 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card has always held their value, and as the popular saying "A rising tide lifts all boats" indicates, over the last 2-3 years all of the various conditions have increased in value in response to the severe price increase of high grade Mantle rookies. This is a very nice example which is all original, and will not break the budget or cause you to tap into the college education fund. A true collector/investment grade card with great eye appeal which due to its AUTHENTIC designation will allow you to finally obtain the one card every collector would love to own.
