This pair of amazing items of umpires' protective gear dates from the 1910s. The very rare mask has ear flaps that swivel, throat protector, and adjustable lace-and-buckle fasteners, rating in Very Good condition with original padding and straps. There is some cracking of the padding from age, but it still looks and feels as though it can do the job. Something of a curiosity, the canvas chest protector is actually intended to be inflatable, also in Very Good with original straps but no longer holds air. A wonderful duo from one of sports' most difficult and thankless professions.
