This fabulous 10x13.5” watercolor on artist's board streams intensity. Cristobal Torriente was Rube Foster's main man on those incredible Chicago/American Giants teams and elsewhere. One of the greats in history, Torriente was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006. Shown here as a member of the Havana Lions in 1926, the painting itself dates to the 1980s. The works of Jorge S. are much celebrated in Cuba and here in the United States. His work is celebrated for its rich detail and colors, like a recording of history as much as a work of art. Once readily available, his material has completely disappeared.
