Spectacular assemblage of 400+ from-the-camera negatives (60mm) of the Ali training camp for Clay-Liston II by award winning photographer Vincent S. D'Addario, taken at the Schine Inn of Chicopee, Massachusetts, where Ali trained for this classic fight. Familiar with the area, having lived there in the early 1960s, the Champ is informal and at ease. At his peak as Heavyweight Champion of the World for the first time, he is looking to defend his “I Shook Up The World” title. Negatives are accompanied by a complete set of 46 contact sheets (printed later) each with his stamp on verso and are dated in his hand to the exact day he took them: May 3-27, 1965. Exceptional images include: Early morning hours posed by the Massachusetts Turnpike sign, on the massage table, great series holding up and signing the rare Clay-Liston Boston Garden site posters and even inscribing one "Bear on the Loose," Bundini Brown and Ali doing their immortal “Rumble Young Man Rumble” rap, posing with his wife Sonji, in the woods clowning with full size stuffed "Sonny Liston Bear,” looking out from his personal bus with "World Heavyweight Champion” emblazoned on the side, posing next to “Reserved for Muhammad Ali” parking sign astride his brand new Cadillac, with Joe Louis and Jersey Joe Walcott, by his “The Greatest Cassius Clay Training Camp" sign, with Stepin Fetchit at the Clay-Liston press conference and afterwards playing the piano together, Bundini Brown lacing up Ali's gloves wearing a “Float Like A Butterfly Sting Like A Bee” t-shirt, hitting the speed bag, jumping rope, hitting the heavy bag, being examined by the ring doctor, holding up “Boston Fight Called Off” newspaper, chatting with attractive female fans and giving autographs, and finally a defiant and unmarked Ali the day after the fight. Overall quality is brilliant and artistry is unparalleled, most are unpublished and have never been seen before. Vinny D'Addario was recognized around the world for his photographic excellence, with numerous awards from UPI, AP, National Press Photographers Association, Boston Press Photographers Association, & Look Magazine. He photographed numerous celebrities including JFK & Jackie Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Norman Rockwell, MLK, the first images of Ted Kennedy's 1964 plane crash and of course, Ali.
