Owned by William Vanderbilt in the first years of the 1900s, thoroughbred Prestige certainly lived up to his name. This trophy celebrates his run as the dominant horse in France in 1905. The 8x10" bronze display is shaped like a peacock, whose plume includes the names of the horses who fell to the undefeated Prestige. The base, also made of bronze with holes presumably to facilitate mounting, features an engraved litany of accomplishments of this stellar steed, which retired in 1906 with a perfect 16 victories in his 16 races. There are signs of oxidation, as is to be expected with age, but that only adds to the classic feel of this memorial for the racing champion.
