Now discontinued, the Tidal Handicap was a very prominent NYRA turf event that was inaugurated back in 1880. Trophies from this event are rare finds, especially one honoring the 1974 winner of the Tidal, Halo, one of the greatest sires in horse racing history. Two-time leading sire in North America, he produced Kentucky Derby winners Sunday Silence and Sunny's Halo.
This creamer stands 5" tall and is stamped, "Randhal Sterling R9013" on bottom. Engraving on side reads "New York Racing Association Tidal Handicap Aqueduct 1974 Won by Graywood Stables Halo Jockey Jorge Velasquez."
