Perfectly photo-matched artifact bursts with history. Worn by Willie Mays in 1962, a photo from that days game shows a white line imperfection in the helmet better than a fingerprint. Black with green molded fiberglass peeking through the many areas of wear over a season or more of use, it bears the interlocking "SF" logo stenciled on the front in orange paint. Vintage dymo tape on the back of the helmet has "MAYS" in white letters and there is an American Baseball Cap size 7 sticker inside along with "7" also written in marker. Original padding inside the rim is all there and this lid shows great use with a few large cracks that in no way take away from its overall appeal, which can't be overstated. As shown in the listing photo, we have found an exact photomatch for this helmet pinpointing to 1962 game versus the New York Mets. Catcher Hobie Landrith only caught two games against the Giants in 1962 and Mays hit home runs in both, making this a definite home run helmet.
