From the father of the baseball card hobby, Jefferson Burdick, to fellow pioneer Lionel Carter, this letter has incredible content. It speaks of "no more books in preparation," referring obviously to the American Card Catalogue. In fact, Burdick is the man who came up with the original ACC designations that put the "T" in T206s. Also, he mentions Charles Bray. He is writing some articles to stay in shape, including with the legendary Charles "Bray." He characterizes his dealings with the British card giant Edward Wharton-Tigar, as money rarely changing hands. Finally, it even contains one of the earliest known references to sports memorabilia itself, referring to it as "paraphernalia." Burdick has sent a "ball" to Carter, the "No. 1 ball hound in America." Unusual J.R. Burdick" space age stationery with his stamped name and Syracuse, New York address. The letter is two-sided, and signed "Jeff," in NRMT condition. This is the first Burdick letter we have ever seen offered for sale. Copy of Burdick photo shown here included.
