The tale of the first time Tom Smith laid eyes on the horse Seabiscuit has taken on epic iconic proportions usually reserved for American folklore and fables, and stories of stars such as Babe Ruth and Marilyn Monroe. The colt had an inauspicious beginning, until that moment in time. He had just began to win a couple of races, one of which was a cheap allowance race on an uncomfortably hot afternoon of June 29, 1936, at Suffolk Downs. This program is from that race, observed by trainer Tom Smith. The owners sold the horse to automobile entrepreneur Charles S. Howard for $8,000 at Saratoga that August and the rest in in the annals of horse racing history. This program from Suffolk Downs from that fateful day, shows Seabiscuit in the fourth winning a mere $1000 when he was already three years old. Elegant program is written in, measures 3.75x10.5", has pencil writing otherwise EX condition.
