Famed track writer B.K. Beckwith released his dramatic book, "Seabiscuit: "The Saga of a Great Champion" in 1940, commemorating the thoroughbred racehorse that inspired the country. Here's an original edition with red padded leather cover, gilt lettering and "J.J. Montgomery" monogram in the lower right corner. There is a color frontispiece of Seabiscuit from a painting by F.B. Voss, introduction by Grantland Rice and facsimile signature by Charles Howard at the foreword. The 64-page book includes illustrations from photographs; drawings by Howard Brodie, terrific wire-shots from the 1937 and 1938 Santa Anita Handicaps, original stories about the beloved horse and the people closest to him, as well as loose newspaper clippings from the era. There are some nicks to the cover edges but the inside pages are in terrific shape.
